Early Signs Your Home Needs Foundation Repair

If you do not know what the signs are, it is hard to tell if your home’s foundation needs repair. There are all sorts of visual signs, such as cracking walls or uneven flooring. Additionally, there may be some signs that you cannot see. Problems with your foundation can start off small but quickly become more advanced; in order to address key issues before they become larger, more expensive projects, it is vital to recognize the early signs.

  • Cracking Walls and Ceilings
Most people notice a crack in their walls or ceilings and do not think much of it; however, it can be a great indicator that more is going on with your foundation. If embedded or horizontal cracks are becoming more prominent in your home, chances are your foundation is also cracking.

  • Doors and Windows are Starting to Stick
Cracking walls are not the only signs that your foundation is in trouble. If your windows and doors are becoming harder and harder to open, you may be experiencing foundation cracking. The shifting or cracking of your foundation can cause pressure and/or misalignment of your doors and windows; this would be what is making them difficult to open and close.

  • Uneven Floors
When you bought or built your home, chances are the floor was even. If you have noticed your floor, or even walls in your home, starting to slant, your foundation is probably starting to shift with the ground below. The shift in the ground below your foundation causes your home to shift as well.

  • Water in Your Basement
Water is going to deteriorate a concrete foundation over time, just like it does with rocks in a river. The groundwater can cause your foundation to crack and crumble, allowing water to start pooling your basement. This can lead to mold and mildew, which will eventually cause more than just problems with your foundation.

Preparedness is key when it comes to maintaining and protecting your home’s foundation; the longer homes with foundation issues are left untreated, the more severe and costly to repair it becomes.
