Take Care of the Foundation You Love

Your home is a safe space and environment for yourself and your family. Many things can be done in order to protect and care for your foundation. On average, foundations are built to last from 80 to 100 years. However, natural causes and other factors can decrease this lifespan. Here are a few things that can be done to maintain your home's foundation.

  1. Do regular inspections. It is suggested to check your foundation twice a year. This can be done yourself. If you see any signs of damage, call an expert to inspect your foundation.

  2. Test underground water sources for leaks. Many home systems may use underground water sources such as sprinklers and pools. Every year or two, call an expert to test for leaks to avoid water damage.

  3. Keep moisture levels consistent. A foundation that is too wet or too dry can cause problems. Repeated differences in soil moisture can cause the soil to move, which can result in cracks and misalignment of your foundation.

  4. Keep shrubbery trimmed. Taller plants require more water to stay healthy. This means more water is surrounding your foundation which ultimately results in water damage. Keep shrubbery surrounding your home small and short.
